My husband Chris and I started Thomassen Beauty Supply in 2000. Because of big changes in the industry, I saw an opportunity where no company would ever be “The only game in town”. With a wall of cotton in the garage, a back bedroom full of wax and a trunk full of books, we were on our way. To be honest, I had no idea what we were doing but it felt good. We were surrounded and supported by my salons and fellow sales people who, for over 9 years with Ace Beauty Company, had become family. Inspired by them to this day, I have discovered the true purpose in life; It’s all about the relationships we make along the way. So, our Fab 5 Salons (these salons were responsible for our success in the very beginning) asked me to “Go get a color line”. I said “You guys are crazy. I can’t beat SoColor”. They said, “Just bring us a color line that’s as good”. We got lucky. We tested a new color line called Vivitone in our Fab 5 Salons and 18 years later the rest is history.
I always say I’d rather be lucky than good, and Wow were we lucky!.
Our luck didn’t stop with Vivitone. Our next lucky break came from a new line called Onesta Haircare; purpose-driven just like us. And now comes Cote Hair referred by Mike Nave, founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Beauty Industry report, a nationally recognized publication and one of my dearest mentors.
Over the past 18 years there have been many lessons along the way. The one lesson that remains the same is stay loyal to your passion. Our passion has always been to be the best we can be, building long-lasting relationships and treating people right…..One Salon at a Time.
